Zurich Masonic Lodge # 1089 A.F. & A.M

  ZurichLodge
The Lake Zurich Masonic Club was formed in 1922. It was an organization for Masonic instruction. Many of the brethren were members of Lounsbury Lodge in Barrington, but in the winter it was difficult to get through the snow. Some of the members even rode the caboose of the E.J. &E. to attend lodge in Barrington. At first they met above the old Village Hall (present police station). In May of 1932 the Lodge moved to the present location on Oak Street. This building was formerly used as a Baptist Church.
Carl Ernst has been given credit for establishing the first Masonic Lodge. He was the first Worshipful Master of that organization. He served the Village for 5 years as treasurer. He also had 3 different general stores in the Village. Don and Marie Estacion were married in 1954 and moved to Lake Zurich. Don worked in Wilmette. They became acquainted with Harry Knigge, and Don played Santa Claus for delivering food and gifts to the needy. Fred Blau got Don into the Lions Club and Masonic Lodge.
He was a 25 year perfect attendance member in the club. Don and Marie were both tireless workers for the Lions. He was Worshipful Master of the Lodge and started the pancake breakfasts. He also worked the Ski Jump refreshment stands for the Lodge. He was president of the American Legion for 4 years and was House Man and chairman of the pancake breakfast affairs.
William Haggard has served the community for more than forty years. Also active in the American Legion, St. Peter Church and Lake Zurich's Masonic Lodge. Bill found time to serve as a trustee for 8 years. He established many new accounting and business procedures in the Village office from 1969 into the 1970's.
